New England is one of the oldest and most historic regions in the United States. It is home to many of the most notable events in U.S. history and some of the most historic places.

1. Salem
Salem is probably one of the most famous places in the state of Massachusetts and the U.S. as a whole due to its place in history and pop culture. Due to its history and famous witch trials, Salem is well known for its association with witches and the paranormal. Due to its age, the town is also home to a number of historic sites, including houses, churches and cemeteries.
2. USS Constitution
Launched in 1797, this historic warship docked in Boston is considered to be the world's oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat and one of the oldest ships in the world.
3. Old North Church
This historic church, built in 1723, is considered to be the oldest church in Boston. It played a critical role in the American Revolution, during which the lanterns hung from the church steeple alerted Paul Revere of the British.
4. White Horse Tavern
Located in Newport, Rhode Island, and first opened in 1673, The White Horse Tavern is considered the oldest tavern in the U.S.
5. Gillette Castle
The Gillette Castle was completed in 1919 in Lyme, Connecticut, by actor William Gillette. The Gillette castle looks almost medieval in its architecture and is filled with unique features like sliding tables, puzzle-like locks, and hidden passageways. At one point, the property even had its own miniature railroad.
