Saudi Arabia is experiencing a significant boost in international air connectivity as major carriers announce new routes and expanded service to the Kingdom, reflecting the country's growing importance as a business and tourism destination.

Delta Air Lines is making headlines with its inaugural nonstop service between Atlanta and Riyadh, launching in October 2026. The route marks a milestone for the carrier as it expands its Middle Eastern footprint.

"Launching service to Riyadh marks a key step in Delta's global growth as we start our second century of flight," said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines. "Our new flights will connect customers to this dynamic, fast-growing region while delivering the care, comfort and reliability they expect. It reflects our bold vision to create meaningful opportunities and experiences in every corner of the world in the years ahead."

The Atlanta-Riyadh flight will operate three times weekly using Delta's Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring four cabin classes: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.

Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic has already begun capitalizing on the Saudi market, launching daily flights from London Heathrow to Riyadh in March 2025.

The carrier joins British Airways and Saudia on the Heathrow-Riyadh route, with Saudia offering onward connections to destinations including Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi as a fellow SkyTeam member.

Canada has also significantly expanded its aviation ties with Saudi Arabia following successful negotiations at the International Civil Aviation Organization's 17th annual Air Services Negotiation Event in 2025.

The updated air transport agreement increases passenger flight capacity from four to 14 weekly flights per country and introduces unlimited all-cargo flights, up from just three weekly services.

The agreement also includes open fifth-freedom rights for cargo operations, allowing airlines to carry goods between two foreign countries on flights originating in their home country.

These expanded agreements position Saudi Arabia as one of Canada's largest and fastest-growing air transport markets in the Middle East, while the new Delta and Virgin Atlantic services strengthen the Kingdom's connections to North America and Europe.
