Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines is closing out the year with a major shift: a new CEO.
On Tuesday, the airline announced that its current CEO Barry Biffle would be replaced at helm of the company by James G. Dempsey, who is currently the airline’s president.
Biffle will transition to a temporary advisory role through the end of the year. The leadership transition is effective immediately.
"Jimmy has been an invaluable member of Frontier's senior leadership team for more than 10 years and has played an instrumental role in the company's evolution and growth during that time," said Board Chair Bill Franke. "We believe Jimmy is uniquely qualified to guide our airline into the future."
Biffle led Frontier for 11 years, and most recently, he oversaw large transformations at the carrier throughout 2025, including the addition of more premium amenities, like first-class seats and new companion travel benefits.
Dempsey has been at Frontier since 2014, initially joining the airline as its chief financial officer. Before coming to Frontier, he also held senior management roles at Ryanair.
"I am honored and excited to lead Frontier Airlines and thank the Board for its trust to shape Frontier's future with our 13,000+ dedicated and hardworking team members,” Dempsey said. “With 13 bases and a strong cost advantage, I believe Frontier is well positioned to deliver unrivaled value to customers across the United States. I look forward to partnering with our team to write Frontier's next chapter as we strive to create long-term value for all stakeholders."
