Gingerbread is a time-honored tradition that helps make the holidays even sweeter. But while most bakers stick to cookies shaped like little men, the team at The Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs goes all out by creating elaborate, life-sized gingerbread displays.

And this year is no different. The pastry team at this long-standing luxury hotel built a golf cart entirely out of gingerbread and dark chocolate.

The design is a nod to the fact that The Broadmoor is a premier golfing destination, with an 18-hole course designed by legendary architect Donald Ross. And in June 2025, the resort will host the 2025 U.S. Senior Open Golf Championship.

The Broadmoor has been welcoming guests to Colorado since 1918. Today, its footprint includes the main resort, as well as several wilderness experiences, including Cloud Camp, The Ranch at Emerald Valley and Fly Fishing Camp.

Led by executive pastry chef Franck Labasse, a team of more than 42 bakers helped bring the vehicle to life.

In addition to the golf cart, they also created a scene featuring penguins, elves holding golf clubs, boulders, a river, and a bridge. And, of course, Santa Claus is behind the wheel of the cart.

They used an impressive amount of ingredients, too, which The Broadmoor listed on a golf-inspired “Front 9” score card.

  • Hole 1 - 958 pounds of powdered sugar
  • Hole 2 - 475 pounds of flour
  • Hole 3 - 1,801 eggs
  • Hole 4 - 19 pounds of holiday spices
  • Hole 5 - 200 pounds of granulated sugar
  • Hole 6 - 128 pounds of molasses
  • Hole 7 - 6 pounds of salt
  • Hole 8 - 164 pounds of dark chocolate

In the past, The Broadmoor’s gingerbread displays have ranged from life-size trains and chapels to canopy boats and cars.

The golf cart will be on display in the resort’s main building mezzanine through the new year.
