As epicurean travelers look beyond traditional Michelin-ranked foodie hubs for 2026, more overlooked destinations around the globe are gaining momentum.

A rising luxury destination delivering technique and terroir where culinary experiences reach beyond beach bars and barbeque, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is leading the charge of unsung foodie destinations just waiting to be discovered.

“The British Virgin Islands is quickly emerging as the Caribbean’s next best foodie hotspot,” said Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism at The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission in a statement. “From the continued success of signature events like Anegada Lobster Festival to exciting upcoming celebrations such as Jost Lime & Dine and Taste of Virgin Gorda, our culinary scene is showcasing the depth, creativity, and cultural richness of BVI cuisine.”

He added, “There's an authentic culinary experience for everyone whether that's an unforgettable intimate omakase experience at Ikigai Omakase BVI or hands-on cooking classes with the likes of Tortola's own, RotiMan (Naturally Tasty by RotiMan)."

Rosewood Little Dix Bay is making waves as a renowned BVI foodie destination. Located on a half-mile crescent of white-sand beach on the coast of Virgin Gorda, the luxury resort is surrounded by crystal-clear tourmaline waters and lush tropical scenery. But it’s not just the scenery that’s impressive, as the foodie scene here is unique and innovative.

“The British Virgin Islands offer unparalleled access to fresh seafood and a rich, diverse culinary heritage. Shaped by African, Indigenous, and European influences, the local food scene is a vibrant ‘melting pot’ of Caribbean flavors,” said Katya Herting, Managing Director, Rosewood Little Dix Bay in a statement.

She added, “We celebrate this diversity with experiences you won’t find anywhere else, like our first-of-its-kind underwater wine cellar and the 10-course ‘Follow a Treasure-Map Menu,’ a multi-sensory journey where guests navigate their meal like a treasure map.”

BVI’s Only Underwater Wine Cellar

Rosewood Little Dix Bay recently unveiled a first-of-a-kind underwater wine cellar, the only of its kind in the BVI. Select wines are submerged off the coastline, allowing them to mature in the natural conditions of the sea. The sea provides optimal conditions for maturing wine with consistent currents, pressure, and temperature. The environment softens tannins and acidity while preserving each wine’s authentic aromatic profile.

Unlike traditional cellars, bottles from the underwater wine cellar are marked by the sea — coral, algae, and other marine life cling to the glass, turning every bottle into a one-of-a-kind work of art. The wines are available exclusively as part of the 10-course Chef’s Table tasting menu, keeping the program truly unique and ensuring guests are experiencing something that can’t be found anywhere else.

The underwater wine cellar reflects a broader philosophy by using the resort’s setting and natural resources to create experiences that are sustainable, culturally resonant, and unforgettable.

10-Course Tasting Odyssey

Luxury dining meets storytelling and adventure with Rosewood Little Dix Bay’s newest culinary experience – a 10-course, multi-sensory journey where guests navigate their menu as a treasure map. Designed to engage all the senses, the experience transforms dining into an interactive and immersive culinary journey.

Highlights include:

  • Blindfolded Tasting: Where guests are blindfolded during one meal course, heightening their senses and allowing them to fully focus on flavor and texture.
  • Chance-Driven Dessert: After the multi-course dinner, guests roll a set of dice to determine their final course.
  • Chef-Curated Surprise: Based on the numbers rolled, Chef Andy crafts a custom dessert, adding spontaneity and excitement to the experience.
  • Underwater-sourced Pairings: An experience paired with the resort’s exclusive Little Dix Bay red wine, aged for six months beneath the serene waters of the bay in the Caribbean’s only underwater wine cellar. Guests also enjoy inventive BVI gin creations, like a Little Dix Bay Gin & Tonic popsicle infused with farm-fresh mint.

Kristy Mosolino, co-owner of Wishes Travel said, “With stunning scenery, pristine secluded beaches, warm crystal-clear turquoise waters, world-class sailing and soulful hospitality, it’s not hard to recommend this Caribbean destination to those looking for a luxury and more secluded getaway. Add in unique culinary experiences many travelers are seeking, and the BVI is an ideal location where every moment feels like a discovery.”
