As temperatures cool across the Northern Hemisphere, Saudi Arabia transforms into one of the season's most compelling destinations

Running from October through the first quarter of the year, the Kingdom's winter calendar showcases an ambitious blend of cultural celebrations, world-class entertainment and outdoor adventures that position Saudi Arabia as an increasingly vital player in global tourism.m

The cornerstone of this seasonal transformation is the "Winter Is Alive" campaign, which encompasses more than 1,000 events and experiences spread across seven major destinations, including Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, the Red Sea, and beyond.

This comprehensive program, launched by the Saudi Tourism Authority, represents a tripling of specialized events compared to its previous year and includes more than 500 exclusive offers designed to attract both regional and international visitors.

At the heart of the event lineup lies Riyadh Season, one of the world's largest entertainment festivals.

This year's edition features 14 distinct zones around the capital, each offering unique attractions ranging from global music performances and WWE Crown Jewel to stand-up comedy with international stars like Martin Lawrence.

Boulevard World operates around the clock, hosting more than 300 restaurants, 1,400 shops and cultural installations that bring global destinations to life.

The Kingdom Arena and other venues showcase everything from major boxing matches to immersive fashion exhibitions, including a display of over 500 archived couture pieces from renowned design houses.

AlUla emerges as perhaps the most distinctive winter highlight.

Winter at Tantora, running from mid-December through early January, honors the region's traditional sundial that historically marked the winter planting season.

Today's festival blends that agricultural heritage with contemporary offerings, including the Ancient Kingdoms Festival, which presents live theatrical performances, art installations and culinary showcases celebrating civilizations from the Nabataeans to the Lihyanites.

Visitors can experience hot air balloon rides over sandstone formations, guided astronomy sessions under pristine desert skies, competitive trail races and the AlUla Wellness Festival, which offers mindfulness workshops and fitness classes against the backdrop of dramatic desert landscapes.

Meanwhile, Jeddah's waterfront transforms into a stage for high-octane events, including the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and international sailing competitions.

Diriyah Season celebrates the Kingdom's Najdi heritage with traditional cuisine and exclusive dining experiences at venues like Maiz, where live stations prepare Saudi bread and regional specialties.

With mild daytime temperatures ideal for exploration, Saudi winter enables experiences that would be uncomfortable during summer months: desert safaris, rock climbing, extensive hiking through heritage sites and diving along Red Sea coastlines.

Major sporting events such as the Dakar Rally, MDL Beast music festival and the Islamic Arts Biennale round out a calendar designed to appeal to diverse interests.

The Saudi Tourism Authority has simplified access through expanded visa programs now covering 66 countries, instant eVisas for holders of UK, US or Schengen visas, and a 96-hour stopover visa.

With connections to 175 international destinations and a 24/7 tourist helpline, the infrastructure supports the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goal of becoming a premier global destination.

For travelers seeking sunshine, culture and world-class experiences during the winter months, Saudi Arabia now offers one of the most diverse seasonal calendars in the region.
