Travelers on American Airlines flights will now be able to stay connected like never before.

The Dallas-based carrier has begun its phased launch of free in-flight Wi-Fi across its entire fleet. The Wi-Fi network will be provided by AT&T.

Starting in January 2026, passengers will have access to the free Wi-Fi on the airline’s narrowbody and dual-class regional planes. By early spring 2026, nearly every American plane will offer free connectivity, the airline says.

Among the planes being outfitted with Wi-Fi capability are American’s new Boeing 787-9 and 787-8 aircraft. The carrier says that once its rollout is complete, it will offer free Wi-Fi on more planes than any other airline in the world.

“Free high-speed Wi-Fi isn’t just a perk — it’s essential for today’s travelers,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer. “That’s why we’re proud to begin rolling out this new offering, sponsored by AT&T, across the majority of our fleet.”

To access the in-flight network, travelers must be members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty program, which is free to join. Once on board their flight, passengers can use their frequent flier number and password to login to an upgraded aainflight.com portal and select “free Wi-Fi” to connect. The revamped portal “is designed for speed, reliability and simplicity, making it effortless to stay connected in flight,” the airline says.

The carrier first announced its plan to add free AT&T Wi-Fi to the majority of its fleet in April 2025.

The new connectivity is part of a larger initiative to make premium upgrades and add amenities across a number of the airline’s products, including the launch of its new Flagship Suites business class cabin, refreshing the interiors of its regional jets, and building more airport lounges.
