A cruise passenger was medically evacuated while sailing off the coast of Mexico last week.
The 76-year-old American woman was sailing aboard the Viking Sky when she fractured her left femur in a fall. The vessel was sailing off the coast of the western Mexican state of Michoacán.
Authorities at the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) in Lázaro Cárdenas received a request to evacuate the passenger, according to a statement from the Sixteenth Naval Zone of Mexico’s Secretariat of the Navy. The station dispatched a patrol boat and transported the patient to a local hospital on land.
The ship was in the midd of a 17-day Panama Canal voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles.
